RIP Walt…great AFL OL…I remember his legendary battles with Tom Sestak and jim Dunaway…..another example of AFL alumni being ignored by the HOF and its outdated and unfair system of selection…Sure- the guy had his demons- few among us don’t- but he sure was aone hell of a player!

A great football player who should be in the Hall of Fame. RIP Walt. He is with Nanci again. Not only was he a great guard, but a great special team player. I will always remember 1963. Walt was a reserve guard his first year behind Shea and Deluca. But all eyes were on Walt when the Chargers kicked off.

Another incredible player from the original AFL that should have his bust in Canton. I was deeply saddened to hear the news today of his passing. God bless Walt and his family. I am fortunate enough to own Walt’s 1970 helmet and it will be displayed with the utmost pride and respect. I will miss you Walt. RIP……..

  4. Julie Ford Reister says:

I am Nanci’s daughter, Julie. We (me, husband Dave, daughter Karlie) have been in touch with “Grampa Walt”, either to see or at least speak with him monthly. We had no clue this was happening. Shocked and so sad, but know that he is with Nanci, Ben, Duke and others close to his heart. Would like to reach out to Walt’s kids but don’t know how to reach them. If you know, please contact me? juliereister@mac.com . RIP Walt, give Nanci a kiss for me.

  5. Ken Severson says:

So sad to hear of Walt’s passing. Definitely a Hall of Fame player. The late Merlin Olsen once said he would rather sell cars full time than have to go against Walt Sweeney on a full time basis.

    RIP Walt.
